REHAU is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of sustainable energy solutions with a range of products which exploit the inherent ‘green’ properties of polymer.

This includes ground source energy probes designed to operate in partnership with REHAU underfloor heating systems, ground – air heat exchangers which provide fresh filtered ventilation air and a complete range of energy efficient windows, doors and curtain walling systems

Its products are used extensively throughout the health and education sectors, in new build commercial developments and in the domestic market in both new and refurbishment projects. Recent installations have been completed in new schools and colleges in Burnley, Suffolk, Kent and Lochaber and for big names including Carlsberg and Tesco.

REHAU offers a solutions based approach – bringing together compatible products from across its range to offer energy efficient schemes which comply with the latest Building Regulations and sustainability codes, whilst at the same time minimising costs.

Three principles of energy efficiency form the basis of the product and design support which REHAU offers to architects, builders, contractors and developers.

The first is to reduce energy losses by maximising the thermal efficiency of the building fabric with PVC-U windows and composite curtain walling systems with U-Values as low as 0.8W/m2K. Its newest development is the GENEO® super energy efficient window which REHAU is promoting as the ideal solution for low carbon homes.

Triple glazed and Argon filled, GENEO® can achieve a market leading U-Value of 0.73W/m2K and even double glazed it can achieve 1.1W/m2K. It is so far proving popular with social housing providers looking to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes and with developers and self builders of ‘green’ properties.

GENEO® is a six chamber system extruded from a new high-tech fibre composite material branded RAU-FIPRO®. A self reinforced design, it does not require additional steel, eliminating the thermal bridges through which energy can be lost in conventional PVC-U frames.

The second principle is to distribute energy efficiently using water based surface heating and cooling systems including underfloor heating, wall and ceiling heating and concrete core tempering. Crucial to this is REHAU’s renowned Everloc compression sleeve pipe jointing system which is so reliable that REHAU is able to offer a 10 year full consequential loss warranty on all its installations.

And the third is to generate heat efficiently both by combining these heating and cooling systems with ground source energy solutions and heat pumps and utilising the REHAU AWADUKT Thermo ground – air heat exchanger to deliver a low carbon cooling solution. REHAU AWADUKT Thermo consists of optimised polypropylene pipework which is laid in a network just 1.5m below ground and which uses the natural temperature of the earth at that level to transfer heat energy to air as is drawn into a building. During the summer, the temperature of the air can be reduced by as much as 14ºC and during winter it can be increased by up to 9ºC, generating considerable energy savings, particularly when combined with a MVHR unit.

The REHAU product range is on show at Ecobuild, along with a live demonstration of its interactive Building Configurator software. Available on its website at, the configurator allows users to enter details about the building they are planning, and then see how different choices in terms of the windows and doors selected, the heating system chosen or the inclusion of renewable energy technologies could impact on its efficiency.

The CO2 emissions rate, additional investment cost and annual energy savings delivered by any of REHAU’s energy efficient products are instantly displayed, allowing users to make informed decisions about the potential costs and payback of their specifications.

It is even possible to see how to meet certain Levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes with just a couple of mouse clicks.

REHAU’s products are installed by a network of specialist ‘Authorised Partners’ who are supported via technical and design teams at REHAU’s head office in Ross on Wye and at its regional sales offices in Slough, Birmingham, Glasgow and Dublin. REHAU also has a dedicated presence at the London Building Centre where it showcases its products and services to architects and specifiers based in and around the Capital, and provides a comprehensive range of CPD services.

The company is part of a global polymer group with 170 worldwide locations and around 15,000 employees.
